There is a distinct line between diplomacy and bullshit, between smalltalk and nonsense, between healthy self-esteem and plain egotism.
Your conscience and good judgement will reliably define this line for you.
Here, we celebrate the power of being direct and unconditionally honest
to leave no room for misunderstanding and disappointment.
How to cut the crap:
Stick to what's true and relevant.
Give others the benefit of doubt. Be open.
Describe yourself and your family "as is"
in a complete picture.
Describe them both - your assets and your troubles.
Describe your aims and hopes in no uncertain terms.
State clearly what you are happy to offer.
Give your feelings the room they deserve.
Use simple language. Talk straight.
Use language that anyone with a basic command
of English will be able to understand.
Accept "No" for an answer.
Always answer a question within 48 hours.
Embrace diversity and enjoy it.
No bragging and boasting. No vanity fair.
No false modesty either.
No vague statements. No whitewashing.
No untrue or partly true statements.
No photographs and external links that could be misleading.
No omissions of facts that matter.
No cynicism. Not even for fun.
There are enough other places for that.
No derogatory statements about others.
No politics and religion until you know each other well.
Never argue over a "no thanks" response.
Never feel obliged to do something you don't really want.
Never push others to do something they don't really want.
Branding where branding makes sense. But relationships require the real you.
These lists are work in progress as we continue to learn.
