Go on. Question everything.
|
Savviness, that's the ability to find a foothold in a world full of little and big lies, thoughtlessness and superficiality, manipulation and disinformation.
To question everything without turning distrustful of everyone, to get to the bottom of things cheerfully: So far, no official education program teaches this skill. But your family is an excellent training camp! |
Bla bla, that's what we call it when someone's talking without really saying something. If the bla bla is not true or misleading we call it bullshit. It happens all the time and it is bad because bla bla and bullshitting make life a lot more difficult for all of us.
That is why even five-year-olds want things they don't need and why some folks hate people they don't even know. |
Savvy! is a family game.
|
Encourage youngsters to listen carefully when people speak. Ask them to pay attention when politicians talk. It's great if they watch the news, listen to teachers and to their friends' parents, register what celebrities and community leaders say and observe what's happening on social media.
Savvy! makes kids notice just how much bullshit there is around! And yet, often things do make sense after all, given a good explanation based on reliable knowledge. So they may want to give it second look, a second thought. This is why dinner time around the family table is the perfect setting to get things straight: "What have you come across today and is it bullshit or not?" |
How good dialogue cultivates savviness:
You create and agree on your own rules to play.
Switch on your mind, listen and observe. Think! Challenge everything, it may affect your future. Find your own favourite sources for reliable fact-checking or ask the community. Consult with your partner-families, both domestic and abroad. Share and compare! |
Make it a sport to turn assumptions into proven or disproven statements. Keep a record, perhaps in an online diary. You'll find that getting savvy is an excellent start into a self-sufficient and fulfilling life.
Fact-checking training for the entire family provides input for remarkable conversations and holds plenty of surprises for all.

Below, we invite kids to report and parents to comment. Your feedback helps to provide better insight into the global topic of bullshit and how
|
The radars below and of course playing the game are open for all, membership with the GlobalNatives.Club is not required. However, membership does provide the ideal setting for families with an open minded global mindset, interested to connect with kindred spirits.
We help each other to understand languages, cultures, people, stories and - naturally - the bullshit too. |
Have you spotted some blatant bla bla?
|
What are your thoughts on the challenges kids face?
|
Who can report and take part? Kids aged between 7 and 17. What can you send in?
Anything you consider bla bla, bullshit, a waste of time or an insult to common sense. Particularly if you feel that a lot of people don't even notice. What languages are permitted?
Any language is okay. There's always someone around who understands. :)) Can mum or dad do it for you?
No, that wouldn't be fair. But it is okay to make mistakes. We all learn. What can you win?
You win "mind-opener" savvy-support! Every week we select the "bullshit of the week": € 1000,- go to straight into your pocket if you have spotted a particular nasty piece of swindle, lie, populist article or consumer deception that really needs to be investigated and made public. Please note: We're not really looking for the truly obvious stuff (like some top politicians). We'd like you to take a closer look! |
Your thoughts and experiences as a parent help us to develop this program. Our aim and hope is to bring the concept of making kids worldwide playfully aware of the need to think independently and analyse information before sharing, judging or reacting upon it. And of course, to convince parents just how important this is and how much it contributes to their kids' abilities to lead a fulfilling and self-sufficient life. You are welcome to leave comments anonymously. However, if you provide your name and mail address with your comment, you have a weekly chance to win a voucher for a year's membership in the GlobalNatives.Club worth € 216,- (which can be passed on to others and has no expiry date!). |
