Stan’s home is Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands.
He always did very well at school and a grant enabled him to study at Cambridge, UK. In his third year there he met Diane from the Lake District. She epitomized the proverbial “English Rose” for Stan, it was love at first sight. After a childhood in a very friendly but scarcely populated environment he felt very much drawn to the buzz of the large cities, so soon after graduation he happily accepted an attractive job offer to Hong Kong. |
Before leaving the UK, Diane and Stan got married. Hong Kong remained home to them for five years and they loved living there until Diane realized that she was – unplanned but welcome – expecting a child.
Shortly before this discovery Stan had been offered a job in Abu Dhabi which would allow him to combine his talents as a manager with his ambition to get a DBA in International Business. The package he was offered was attractive and it included spacious accomodation not far from the university, so Diane and Stan decided to accept. |
The parallel preparations for the move and for the baby prompted Diane to look into a few networks, in particular www.expatexchange.com, where someone suggested she might want to check out the Global Natives Club.
Within a couple of weeks Diane applied to join. Soon she had made contact with two couples in Abu Dhabi who each had a new born baby and were interested in establishing connections to prepare for the expat years yet ahead of them. When the time for the move finally came Diane and Stan already had very clear notions of what it would be like to deliver a baby in the Emirates, which hospital Diane wanted to go to and where to turn for all the things that would be needed then. |
Alan was born in Abu Dhabi. As an expat baby with Global Natives parents he has an excellent network to get a great start in life ! |
