Claire and Beat are “Biobauern”. What is a Biobauer ? A certified organic farmer. They live in Graubuenden, Switzerland, with their four sons aged 15, 17, 19 and 22. |
The Swiss population is multilingual – there is German, French and Italian spoken and a small part of the population still speaks the old dialects like Romantsch. But the young want to speak perfect English and appreciate every opportunity to learn and practice.
Claire and Beat established a connection with Jean and Richard from Boston who have three kids (eighteen year old boy twins and a lively twelve year old girl) and are both partners in a busy law firm. The two families connected through their enthusiasm for organic farming and their passion for nature.

The “basics” – shared interests and passions, mutual benefits of learning each other's language and diving into culture and lifestyle with local guidance – these are the fundamentals this community is based on. |
For both families this means wider horizons, hiking in the Alps, studying in Boston, exploring life together.

The added bonus shows itself in the unexpected synergy effects. Frequently, members find new experiences and revelations through the catalyst effect of introducing foreign visitors to
their home environment. It’s something everybody knows from personal experience: we don’t usually visit our local sightseeing attractions unless we want to show them to visitors. Between interested personalities, this can go much further: it was through Beat’s specific professional focus that they both started getting involved with projects like Urban Farms and the subject of hydroponics. |
