Greta's Generation.
Global competence is a superpower!
We have decided to build a new and powerful model for global competence.
A model that is feasible and affordable to everyone, a new standard. The Burkart Grant invites young people between 12 and 22 to have their say in creating it. Their input will play a major role. The ten most inspired and insightful concepts will be awarded € 100.000,- each.
Where we stand today:We specialize on making global education accessible. For the last ten years our platform has seen a dynamic exchange of knowledge, languages and opportunities, based on international family partnerships. Now the time has come to take the next step. This is where you come in.
Where we want to go:We enter into our next decade with an ambitious goal:
Greta's generation has enormous challenges on the horizon. Education systems haven't developed anywhere near as fast as times have changed. For a start, global education should be a normal, everyday part of life at school. But it isn't. That's what we want to change. Perhaps with your help. |
This is the offer:
If you feel you belong to Greta's generation and want to contribute to this milestone project we invite you to apply for one of ten € 100.000 student grants to fund the education for all your own special plans, ambitions and dreams.
For this, you can turn to others for support: Parents, teachers, classmates etc. can be on your team. Use all your skills, tools and contacts! Taking on this challenge requires your whole-hearted commitment, exceptional imagination, a powerful passion for learning and teaching, a great amount of pragmatic idealism, hard work, a strong sense of responsibility and the readiness to share - both the workload and the award.

Greta's generation faces

What is the framework?
The project Greta's Generation will make global education in- and outside the classroom more available, more access-ible, more inspiring, more helpful, smarter, less bureaucratic and - yes!!! - independent from cash and family connections.
We have developed a strategy and are keen to get started.
Stage One professionalizes and evaluates our current activities. For the second stage - to be launched in September 2020 - we want your opinion, your insights and your conclusions. For this we have deliberately opted for an open grant offer. This means you do not have to be a member to take a shot. Why? Because if this was for members only we would miss out on the views and perspectives of young people outside our community. But we want the whole picture.

What is OUR definition of global education?
The Global Native idea of global education is not learning the stuff you can easily look up anyway (... like the capital of XYZ). It is a lively exchange of information and personal conversations between students, parents and teachers, classes and schools. It's about languages, culture, mentality, history. Across all continents.
Familiarity takes away fears, establishes ties and encourages dialogue. An insight into other lives creates mutual understanding and a stronger sense of responsibility for each other. Genuine human interaction is an excellent medicine against all kinds of phobias and -isms. |
The point is to truly understand so that Greta's Generation can become genuine global citizens. Care for a practical example?
From one human being to another: It's one thing imposing tariffs on a nation and quite another knowing the kids whose parents lose their job because of them. It's one thing seeing burning rainforests on TV and another, talking to kids whose sky is full of smoke. If you're a student who can't see the point of having to learn another language you might change your mind once you've met kids who speak three languages every day - one at home, one at school and with their friends and another with their grandparents. And it will blow your mind to find out just how much you've been taking for granted so far. Check out a definition by the OECD by clicking the graphic to the left. |
We want nothing less than a milestone in education.
A milestone? Over hundred years ago Maria Montessori (1870 - 1952) created the motto "Help me to do it myself!". Before then, the general tune of classroom spirit used to be "Just shut up and listen!" Of course things did not change overnight, but it was the start of a new era that brought respect for the individual child and a much better understanding of juvenile minds and childhood development. It was a new and bright light at the other end of the tunnel. It was a milestone.
Our milestone should be to raise new generations who think global by default because they've grown up that way.
Greta's generation will take considerably better care of the world and of each other.
The protesters of today want to be the competent politicians, leaders, entrepreneurs and teachers of tomorrow!
We want to give them all the support we can.
Let us know you're interested and we will send you all the relevant information, together with a formal offer.
