Over 800.000 young Global Natives are going into politics. The network will be their lively give-and-take source of information and inspiration, support and friendship.
Over the course of the last few weeks, the dominating political topic was of course the storming of the US Capitol and the impeachment process against the former president. Trump's acquittal upset the entire community.

Wanted: Politicians with guts and backbone.
Hot discussions ensued about the Republicans' loyalty towards Trump. Young people world-wide perceive them as spineless, short-sighted and utterly selfish. The general opinion is that 43 senators put their personal ambitions and fears before the good of the country, before honour and reputation of the nation, before their own sense of right and wrong.
This point of view prevailed across all nationalities and soon the questions came up: "Why don't we ask the Americans amongst us? We want to know what they think." So we held a poll and found very surprising and quite enlightening answers.
Some stats | Out of all the US citizens in the network about 22% identify as Republicans. 12.688 of these Republicans participated in the poll. 11,798 - that's 93%! - stated unequivocally that they would have much preferred to see a successful impeachment of Donald Trump. Their opinion goes totally against the party line. Why? |
Most of their peers go along with the majority. Even Republicans abroad do. So it can't be their global mindset alone. Intrigued, we asked again - in more detail. And now we know:
A global mindset lays the ground, sure enough. But as Global Natives, they don't just have international contacts, they actually know them. It's their tribe. Familiarity and strong common ground lower the threshold and dialogue is a good talk amongst friends.

We're prepared to listen to opinions other than our own when we're with people whom we know, like and trust. We're open to look at things from their perspective. Which is exactly what happened. What these young Republicans said is this:
"I look at four year of Trump administration from a Japanese, an Australian or a Swiss point of view, I consider the lies and the blatant ignorance from a healthy distance, I read what The Guardian or Die Zeit write about this president and his rule-by-Twitter antics ... and I'm wondering if I should laugh or cry. It's an eye-opener, no doubt. |
With this in mind, the community sees the tremendous value of exchanging opinions
that are free from patriotic bias.
